Fishing is a great way to spend time outdoors, learn some skills and have fun. All of the states require a fishing license and when you purchase a license you are helping to protect and preserve the sport of fishing for today and for future generations.
Depending on what state you are purchasing a license for, fees, age that you need a license, whether you are a resident or nonresident of that state, the license can be different, as well as what type of fishing you will be using the license for. Some states have salt or fresh water fishing, which may require a separate license. Licenses can be bought at most sporting goods stores in a particular state.
In New York State, any person under the age of 16 does not need a license. The license in New York State can be just a fishing license or a combined hunting and fishing license that allows you to fish by angling, spearing, take frogs by spearing and any other fishing that is provided by the Department of Environment Conservation. The license should be carried at all times when fishing. New York State also has free fishing days where anyone can fish free for two days the last weekend of June.
Whether you will be fly fishing in the rocky mountains or deep sea fishing in California or Florida, a good place to check for license information is online; there are several sites that contain this information and you can even purchase your license online.
