This is that time of year when we all can go outside and enjoy the warmer weather and sunshine. It is a time that families, including children, can be together.
Perhaps you may start with a simple picnic. Everyone can relax. This can reduce stress and give you time to think, enjoy the scenery, and socialize.
That can be followed by a walk or hike, where you can get those muscles working and increase your cardiovascular health. For easy aerobic exercise, you can enjoy a game of golf. If you need a more intense workout, a fast bike ride or a hard game of soccer might be in order. Nothing gives a parent more delight than watching their child score a goal. The kids learn to take direction from the coach, learn interaction with others, and develop good self-esteem. Keeping everyone active can reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and obesity.
Another activity that everyone can enjoy and partake in is gardening. It is a good way to get plenty of exercise. Pulling weeds, digging holes, planting seeds, and watering plants are all active tasks that have to be done. It is also a good learning experience for everyone. With proper direction, they learn about the soil, if any nutrients have to be added, and how far apart to plant the seeds. They learn how to conserve water by adding mulch and how to recycle organic materials to make compost. They can see the benefits of their hard work firsthand. They gain a sense of accomplishment and can enjoy the fruits, and vegetables, of their labor.
