Fishing remains to be a favorite pastime for many. Whether you fish for pleasure or competition, it is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Freshwater and saltwater are the two types of fishing. Whichever you prefer, the perfect bait makes all the difference. Once you have chosen your rod and reel and have filled up your tackle box, you are ready to go fishing!
There are many types of bait out on the market today. You can go to your local sporting goods store or simply capture it yourself. Depending on the type of fish you are trying to catch, you will have to use a certain bait. For specific fish species, certain types of bait works more effectively than others. Live or artificial bait are essentially used when fishing. Or you can make your own bait from bread, cheese or kernels of corn. Earthworms, minnows, shrimp, clams and insects are your most common live bait.
Power bait, lures and soft plastic worms are also common. Lures come in many shapes, sizes, weights and colors. Lures are used to attract the fish. Lures are designed to resemble live bait. Each one performs differently underwater. Choosing the perfect bait seems to be somewhat trial and error. As a reminder, salmon and trout should never be used as fishing bait. They can promote the spread of a kind of parasite called whirling disease.
Every fisherman seems to have a preference when it comes to what type of bait. This preference usually comes from personal preference or another fisherman’s suggestion.
