There are different fishing rules and regulations in different states. Some websites, like Takemefishing.org, provides links to all state regulations and laws about fishing. The commonality in every state is that you must have a license for fishing if you are 16 years old or older. Prices for fishing licenses are different in every state. The regular fishing license in Nevada is $29 per year, while in California, a sport fishing license is $41.20 and $110.80 for non-residents. There are also relatively cheap one, two and 10 day fishing licenses available.
For commercial fishing you have to pay a substantially larger price. Purchasing fishing licenses helps to protect and preserve sport fishing. Money coming from licenses is spent on fishing management, education and other programs for preserving endangered species and protecting the environment.
There are several different types of fishing. These include bite casting, spin casting, fly fishing, jig and worm fishing and catch-and-release fishing. The TakemeFishing website will teach you all of these techniques and what kind of fish you can use them on.
There are also different regulations for size, amount, time and location for fishing. For Lake Erie, Ohio and surrounding waters you'll need a license, while in private lakes, ponds and reservoirs you don’t need a license. As for size, largemouth and spotting bass have to be at least 15 inches, but yellow perch has no limits in size and is allowed to be fished year-round. However, you cannot catch anymore than 30 perch a day.
