Fishing on the West Coast

Fishing from the pier is one of the most popular ways to fish on the coast of California. Goleta Beach County Park, has a 1,450 foot long pier called Goleta Pier. You will want to bring two poles: one small to catch your bait with and a larger pole to catch bigger game. The locals catch queenfish using anchovies, then turn around and use the queenfish to catch halibut. This, of course, is just one strategy, as there is wide array of fish you can shoot for. Brown rockfish, kelp rockfish, blue rockfish, thornback ray, barred surfperch are some of the other species you can fish for.

You can take a charter on the Oregon coast. A half-day trip lasts about five hours and includes whatever fish is in season. The whole day trip includes crabbing trips, extended salmon fishing trips, and voyages for bigger game. The crabbing trips will take you farther out into the ocean. Group rates are cheaper, so you might want to take some friends. A boat ride, fishing gear, safety equipment are some of the things the charter company will provide. You will need to bring sun screen, water, and a camera.
