Catfishing

Fishing for catfish is an age old tradition. People have been going after the big cats for hundreds of years. There is nothing quite like sinking a glob of bait, down into the depths, and waiting to see what hits it. Patience is the key to catching catfish. Sometimes you have to sit there a long time, before you get a nibble. Don't give up, waiting is the hardest thing to do. Your persistence will pay off, when you are reeling that whiskery devil in. If you keep reeling in your line and moving to another spot, chances are you will get hung up on the bottom. Losing it all, hook sinker and line. Making you have to start all over, rerigging your pole. You are better off to kick back and wait it out. The rewards are worth the wait.

There are a lot of different ways to rig your line, when catfishing. You can set it up so that the weight is on the bottom, with your hook being up from it a few inches. Then there is using the slider method. Which consists of putting a slider on your line, and then rigging up the hook below that. That way your weight will hit bottom, but your bait will flow around behind it. Everyone has their own ways, and will tell you that their way is the best way. Trying out a lot of different methods is my suggestion. Find the one that you like best, and use it. The most important thing is that you catch some fish. Anyway you can achieve that, is the best way.

What bait to use, can be argued by everyone. Anything from marshmallows, corn, anchovies, chicken livers, to your own homemade stink bait. A lot of anglers do make their own special formula. I would be scared to ask what some of the ingredients are. the stinkier the better, is what they say. Catfish rely on smell, swimming down there in the dark. I have always had real good luck with chicken livers, myself. But like I said, everyone has their own favorites. If your reeling them in, whatever your using is working. Keep on fishin!!
