Well, here's a little more fishin' news for all of you. Went out to the O'Neil Forebay again, this second week of November. It was quite a bit cooler this time, but the fish are still biting. The preferred bait seems to be shad. However, a lot of guys try to catch these little minnows , called gobies. They catch them with a little jig. Both baits seem to be working very well.
I personally used frozen shad and did pretty good. Within the first three oe four hours I had caught four fish. Only one of them was a keeper. He was about 28 inches, a nice fish. The others were all around 15 inches or so. After about one more hour I managed to hook into a real nice one. He was close to 30 inches and oh boy did he put up a fight. It was just about dark after I had caught that fish, so I took my two keepers and headed for home.
The O'Neil Forebay is an easy and accessable place to fish. Well I guess you do have to live in the central valley region of California. But if you do, you should give it a try. Well, till next time, good luck dippin' the hook sinker and line. Cya, fishin' buddies.
Well, here in the central valley of California, we have finally gotten some cooler weather. I think that is when the fishing picks up a little bit. I have been doing a bit of fishing out near the O'Niel Forebay, near Gustine. The striper fishing out there has been real good lately. The first part of November, proved to be very good fishing. Brought home a couple of keepers. A 27 inch as well as a 24 inch striper, made for a couple of great dinners.
Stripers are very fun to catch. They really fight hard. Actually I had two of them snap my line. You never really know how big they are until you see them up in the water. The darn things can really fool you as to how big they are. I had just gotten hung up on the bottom and had tightened my drag, then forgot to loosen it back up, when i threw back out. That proved to be a costly mistake. As a few minutes later my pole bent down hard. I never saw this one, but he did snap my line after a short fight. Stripers are a very strong fish, so don't get caught sleeping, like I did.
The weather is great right now for fishing here. The good news is that the fish think so too. So gather up your gear and head on out for some great times. You never know when you might catch the big one! Even if you don't, a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. The great thing about this area, is that there are loads of places to throw out the hook, sinker, and line. If not the forebay, the California Aguaduct is right there too. Get out and enjoy some really good fishing, and make some great memories ,while you are at it.
Getting outdoors and enjoying nature, is a great way to spend your summer days. There is an
Hanging out with a hangover is not that much fun. If you have a hangover, it might be best to choose a better time to hang out. You will feel a lot better if you just wait out the hangover. It will subside and you will feel better before to long. The night before was a lot more fun than the day after is going to be. That much, you can count on. For a lot more information on hangovers and just generally hanging out, I suggest going to this site. You can hook up with others and talk about everything that interests you.
Light tackle is for use more in the streams and lakes. It is used for catching trout and different species of bass. Usually a light set up is plenty for this kind of fishing. With the variety of lightweight, heavy duty lines that are out now, most light set ups can still bring in huge fish. It is more fun to play a big fish on lighter gear. However, you do not want to lose a big fish because your tackle is too light. It is completely up to the fisherman to decide what they like best. Heavy tackle is used for deep sea and fishing for the whoppers in area lakes. With this type of tackle, you can pretty much reel in all types of fish. From monster catfish too huge stripers and sturgeons, a heavy set up will ensure that you do not break your line or pole. A lot of tackle is just a fishermans preference. Some like the challenge of light tackle versus big fish. While others prefer to crank the big dogs in. Either way you just need to have the proper gear, and that will ensure a great fishing trip. |
